Unfortunately, I never get the chance to watch the little omega show. I’m dragged into some meeting and kept there all afternoon. By the time I emerge, fucking frustrated with a pair of testicles the size of basketballs, Cruise, Declan and Avery have left for the day.

I walk straight past their empty office and over to Jonah’s. He’s sitting at his desk, reading a report. He looks up when I enter.

“You ready to leave?” I ask him.

“Yes,” he says, “but I’m going to stay here for as long as I can.”

“Why?”

“There’s less temptation here than at home.”

Yeah, a lot less temptation. I consider informing him that Declan has already fallen foul of that temptation but decide that piece of information is better left delivered by the offender himself.

Instead, I wave him goodbye and make my way home.

The mansion is all lit up when I return home but eerily quiet and empty.

I head for my bedroom and switch on the lamp. I’ll watch a film. Play a video game. Hell, I might even call my mom. Something to distract me from the omega.

The more I think about it, the more I consider this afternoon a lucky escape; fate intervening to stop me from doing something stupid.

I don’t like the plan. I fucking hate the plan. But I can’t deny it’s a sensible one. The omega may smell like honey. She may be beautiful. She may have a smile and a laugh that make my insides spin. But what do we really know about her? And more importantly, she’s leaving. A few more days and she’ll be gone.

Better not to risk it.

I strip out of my suit and go take a long, cold shower. Something I hope will temper my dick’s enthusiasm. It’s freaking painful under the powerful blast. And my cock is about as pleased about the icy onslaught as the rest of my body. The effect doesn’t last, though. No sooner am I drying off and stepping into a pair of sweatpants and tee, than my cock’s stirring again. It’s that scent. It’s in the air.

I pick up the remote and flick through the film options. Then toss it onto the bed.

I switch on the game console, load up a game, peering out of the window while I wait.

The lights are on in the pool house, the blinds drawn. But there’s a figure lying out on one of the loungers by the pool. I stroll over to the window for a better look. It’s the omega’s friend, scrolling on her phone.

My feet are heading out of my room, down the staircase and through to the pool before I know what I’m doing.

“Where’s Avery?” I ask.

The friend yelps, tossing her phone up into the air before scrambling to catch it again. When it’s safe in her hands, she lays a palm over her chest and sighs.

“You scared the crap out of me.”

“Sorry,” I say.

She places her phone down on her thigh.

“Avery’s in there,” she says, pointing to the pool house behind her.
